Blues for Winter Zero is a dusty trip through middle America in the heady days of the late 19th century, when Thomas Edison’s cylinder recording technology was making its way to farms, fields, and revival tents. Wes Tirey and M. Sweets—collaborators with lengthy discographies of their own—have collaged together a greatest hits collection of these naive field recordings, songs, and sermons and layered them with spoken word passages. It all plays out with pops and crackles like a fever dream over AM frequencies.
