Mirror Drawings is a bound suite of screen prints by Drum Machine Editions’ Summer 2021 Publishing Resident Claire Whitehurst (Jackson, MS). The thirty images in this collection—originally conceived as drawings and monotypes during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic—appear here as mirrored pairs. Borrowing inspiration from the lush natural world of the South, the linework and iconography compose a personal landscape of idiosyncratic symmetries: listlessness and ecstasy, loneliness and wonder.
Hand-pulled by the artist using 50 unique colors and gradients. Spiral-bound with 20mm green coil. Binding, technical assistance, and additional printing by Erik Pedersen at Drum Machine Editions.

Claire Whitehurst is a painter, printmaker, and ceramicist based in Jackson, Mississippi. She earned an MFA at the University of Iowa (2020) and a BFA at the University of Mississippi (2015). She has exhibited in numerous solo shows nationally including Mississippi Shade (Steve Turner, Los Angeles, CA), I Have Considered the Lilies (University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA), and Act of Balance (Gallery 119, Oxford, MS). Whitehurst was the summer publishing resident at Drum Machine Editions (Asheville, NC) in 2021. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings, ArtMaze Magazine, and Oxford American. As a 2018 Stanley Fellow for International Research with the University of Iowa, Whitehurst studied polychromatic cave paintings and engravings in the Dordogne region of southern France.
